Just like Chinese medicine, functional medicine is grounded in finding the root cause, not by simply treating symptoms. Functional Medicine addresses more than just where the issue is in your body but how the issue manifests throughout your body. The goal is to find the underlying mechanism and how we can address the root cause to effectively get results. It does not require the presence of disease in order to have an imbalance, just as patients can feel unwell while still presenting as “normal” in lab testing or medical evaluation.

One main goal of this approach is prevention as well as achieving optimal health and wellness. Rather than using pharmaceutical medications to suppress symptoms, functional medicine looks at it from the other direction – preventing disease from manifesting in the first place.

When illness or disease is present, we investigate in an effort to develop a personalized approach to healing and wellnesses in the body, often without the necessity of medications or surgery. Chronic disease is a fast-growing concern in society today, from cardiovascular diseases and diabetes to gastrointestinal issues, depression, and more. Functional medicine can often reverse and/or prevent illness and promote healing.
